Abstract
La investigación en la disciplina científica de Trabajo Social ha sido una constante desde su nacimiento, gracias a la labor realizada por Mary Richmond. Ella realizó una investigación durante más de 15 años, que le permitió trabajar con unos 2.800 casos de la Charity Organization Society. La sistematización realizada permitió conocer y aplicar la metodología de intervención a seguir, justificando al Trabajo Social como profesión. En sus orígenes el Trabajo Social ha utilizado diferentes modalidades de investigación, que han pasado desapercibidos. Teniendo como consecuencia que determinados pensadores hayan considerado que el Trabajo Social no tiene una metodología propia de investigación y que la toma de otras de Ciencias Sociales. El objetivo se centra en analizar las aportaciones de Mary Richmond en las investigaciones actuales en Trabajo Social, para resaltar su capacidad investigadora, la validez de sus procesos de intervención y evidenciar su utilidad hasta nuestros días. Se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica en las principales bases de datos científicas en español, inglés y portugués, desde 1994 al 2018; tomando como referencia los criterios metodológicos de Arksey y O ́Malley (2005). Los resultados principales resaltan la fundamentación metodológica sobre la que se sustenta la disciplina. Entre las conclusiones principales del trabajo destacan: el reconocimiento y puesta en valor de la capacidad investigadora desde sus orígenes; y la necesidad de acreditar los procesos de elaboración del diagnóstico social en la relación de las dificultades de la familia utilizados por Mary Richmond de la profesión, tan presentes en el Trabajo Social actual.
Research in the scientific discipline of Social Work has been a constant since its birth as a profession thanks to the work done by Mary Richmond that justifies with a research carried out for more than 15 years, over 2,800 cases of the professional practice of the Charity Organization Society (COS), what is the methodology to follow and also justifies that Social Work is a profession to have a unique role. This profession uses in its origin different research modalities that have gone unnoticed. The most direct consequence of these circumstances has led certain people to think that Social Work does not have its own research methodology and, therefore, it must take it from other social sciences. The general is to analyze the contributions of Mary Richmond in current research in Social Work, to highlight her investigative capacity, the validity of her intervention processes and show their usefulness to this day. A bibliographic review has been carried out in the main scientific databases in Spanish, English and Portuguese, from 1994 to 2018; taking as reference the methodological criteria of Arksey and O'Malley (2005).Among the conclusions that are reached is that the recognition in the research capacity of this profession in its history goes through the accreditation of the instruments used by the main authors of the profession
