Abstract
Over the last few years, it has been an increasing interest in gamification as an educational methodology. Its effectiveness has been proven to increase motivation and engagement of users with respect to a product, service or even learning itself. In order to use its full potential, it is very important to set a framework for designing gamification, recognizing the value of the game elements as motivators that are capable of meeting the needs of the user. Using gamification in education is very extended these days, nevertheless, there are fewer examples in higher education. This paper examines the state of current research on gamification in existing literature, also, it describes the design and implementation of a didactic experience in Design Education, with higher school students of art specialty (Segundo de Bachillerato). Gamification is implemented in this activity in order to foster motivation and creativity in students. The results, as well as students' comments suggest that gamifying can provide positive effects, increasing motivation, and improving the cognitive processes related to creativity in students.
