Los procesos de transformación urbana iniciados con la primera revolución industrial encuentran en Vigo uno de sus ejemplos más paradigmáticos. A comienzos del siglo XIX, superada la contingencia de la ocupación francesa, la pequeña villa marinera emprende un nuevo camino en base al desarrollo de una importante industria pesquera, conservera, naval y de tráfico marítimo. Con este principal catalizador, la ciudad experimenta un acelerado y exponencial crecimiento demográfico, parejo a su radical expansión metropolitana, que comporta una profunda metamorfosis socioeconómica. The urban transformation processes, which started with the first Industrial Revolution, have found one of its most paradigmatic examples in Vigo. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, once the contingencies of the French occupation are overcome, thes mall fishing village embarks on a new path based on the development of an important fishing, canning, shipbuilding and maritime traffic industry. With this impulse, the city experiences accelerated and exponential demographic growth, parallel to its radical metropolitan expansion, which involves a profound socio-economic metamorphosis.
