Abstract
Este estudio analiza el fenómeno social que conocemos como “majismo” y que, asociado a la moda femenina de la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII, despertó interés de las clases altas por todo lo proveniente del ámbito popular. Este trabajo pretende ir más allá de su estética teniendo en cuenta las relaciones entre los cambios en el vestir y los cambios sociales que se produjeron en este período de tiempo. El objetivo es analizar las cuestiones estéticas y sociales que definieron a un tipo social concreto: el de las majas. Una de las preocupaciones centrales de esta investigación es indagar en el alcance social del movimiento que conocemos como majismo y en las razones por las que tuvo éxito entre los diferentes niveles sociales. En concreto esta tesis parte de la pregunta de ¿porqué algunas mujeres aristócratas y nobles del siglo XVIII eligieron para ser retratadas un estilo indumentario tan alejado de las modas imperantes en esas esferas a las que pertenecen? Y ¿Cuáles fueron los motivos para utilizar el estilo del “majismo” en las decoraciones de sus residencias?...
This study analyzes the social phenomenon known as “majismo” and associated with female fashion in the mid-eighteenth century and how it aroused the interest of the upper classes for everything from the popular sphere. This pretends to go beyond aesthetics considering the relationships between dress transformations and social changes. The objective is to analyze aesthetics and social issues which define a specific social type: majas. One of the main concerns of this research is to explore the social scope of “majismo” movement and the reasons why it was successful between the different social levels. Specifically, this thesis departs from the question: why aristocratic and noblewomen in the eighteenth century chose to be portrayed this popular style which was far away from the established fashion in their social spheres? And what were the motives to use the“majismo” style in the decorations of their residences...
