Abstract
Las enfermedades psiquiátricas en general y el trastorno bipolar en particular son afecciones que, pese al amplio estudio realizado sobre ellas, se encuentran en condiciones de tratamiento relativamente precario. Los fármacos empleados para ello son limitados y requieren de prescripciones basadas más en la experiencia que en datos objetivos, quedando los efectos secundarios producidos por estos en un segundo plano y aceptados como un mal necesario. Dentro de los efectos secundarios y como profesionales de la salud visual, es de especial interés la profundización sobre aquellos que afectan al sistema visual, generalmente desconocidos o escasamente valorados.
Para el análisis de los efectos adversos, de los fármacos antes mencionados, sobre el sistema visual, fueron escogidas para evaluar estructuras del segmento anterior, cuya respuesta al tratamiento psiquiátrico han sido menos estudiadas que otro tipo de respuestas como maculopatías o glaucomas. La aportación principal de esta Tesis Doctoral es atender a la influencia de la farmacología del tratamiento para la bipolaridad y para ello se analiza la estructura corneal, la composición y función de la lágrima, así como el estado de la conjuntiva, entre otros...
Psychiatric illnesses in general and bipolar disorder in particular are conditions that, despite the extensive study carried out on them, are in relatively poor treatment conditions. The drugs used for this are limited and require prescriptions more based on experience than on objective data, leaving the side effects produced by these in the background and accepted as a necessary evil. Within the side effects and as visual health professionals, it is of special interest to deepen those that affect the visual system, generally unknown or poorly valued. For the analysis of the adverse effects of the aforementioned drugs on the visual system, they were chosen to evaluate structures of the anterior segment, whose response to psychiatric treatment has been less studied than other types of responses such as maculopathies or glaucomas. The main contribution of this Doctoral Thesis is to attend to the influence of the pharmacology of the treatment for bipolarity and for this, the corneal structure, composition and function of the tear are analyzed, as well as the state of the conjunctiva, among others...
