Abstract
El objetivo de la presente tesis es el estudio del Asilo de Convalecientes de San Nicolás, situado en Madrid y fundado a principios del siglo XX. Intenta superar la simple descripción y análisis formal de la institución, como ocurre con muchos estudios monográficos sobre instituciones similares para analizar las características que permiten diferenciarla de otros centros de beneficencia de épocas anteriores o coetáneas. La finalidad de la institución y algunos aspectos fundacionales determinan un perfil peculiar que se estudian con detenimiento. La duración de su existencia atraviesa períodos políticos muy diferentes e incluso antagónicos: monarquía de Alfonso XIII, Segunda República, Guerra Civil y posterior Dictadura. Cada uno de estas etapas está marcada por rasgos bien definidos y por acciones que influyeron poderosamente en la actividad del centro, cambiando sus fines fundacionales...
The aim of this thesis is the study of the “Asilo de Convalecientes de San Nicolas”, an institution located in Madrid and stablished in the beginning of the XX century. The following work will go beyond a simple description and formal analysis of the institution, as it occurs with many monograph studies about other similar institutions. This study will analyze the features that make posible to differentiate the Asilo among others coetaneous or previous welfare organizations. The purpose of the institution and some foundational aspects determine a specific profile that is carefully studied, The duration of its existence goes through very different and even antagonistic political periods: the monarchy of Alfonso XIII, the Spanish Second Republic, the Spanish Civil War, and Franco´s dictatorship. Each of these stages is marked by well-defined features and by actions that powerfully influenced the activity of the institution and consequently changing its foundational aims...
