Abstract
La localización en el Archivo General de Indias de Sevilla en el año 2017 del manuscrito de una crónica que narra la rebelión de un grupo de cimarrones al norte de Ecuador, la Verdadera descripción y relación larga de la provincia y tierra de las Esmeraldas (1583), nos ha permitido en el presente trabajo ofrecer su tercera edición y la primera crítica, objetivo principal de nuestra investigación. El estudio que antecede a dicha edición crítica reúne, de una parte, las referencias sobre la intensa vida del autor, el español Miguel Cabello Valboa, soldado, clérigo secular, cronista, historiador de Indias y poeta reconocido de la Academia Antártica, transcurrida entre Europa y América e inseparable de su producción bibliográfica y, de otra, una indagación en las características textuales y temáticas de dicha relación...
The location in the General Archive of the Indies of Seville in 2017 of the manuscript entitled True description of the province and land of the Emeralds, of a chronicle that narrates the rebellion of a group of maroons in northern Ecuador, the true description and long relationship of the province and land of the Emeralds (1583), has allowed us, in the present work, to offer its third edition and the first of a critical nature, the main objective of our research.The investigation that precedes said critical edition brings together, on the one hand, references about the intense life of the author, the Spanish Miguel Cabello Valboa -soldier, secular cleric, chronicler, historian of the Indies and recognized poet of the Antarctic Academy-, which took place between Europe and America and inseparable from its bibliographic production and, on the other, an investigation into the textual and thematic characteristics of this relationship...
