Abstract
El cáncer de mama es el tipo de cáncer más común en mujeres y la cuarta causa de muerte de las mismas a nivel global, cuya incidencia no ha dejado de aumentar en los últimos años debido a muy diversos factores: genéticos, cambios demográficos, hábitos de vida, exposición a radiaciones y tratamientos hormonales, entre otros.Un caso particular de cáncer de mama es el carcinoma inflamatorio mamario o Inflammatory Breast Carcinoma (IBC). Descrito por primera vez en 1814 por Charles Bell, es el subtipo de tumor mamario menos prevalente pero que destaca por su gran mortalidad. Actualmente, la definición de IBC aceptada es la del American Joint Committee of Cancer (AJCC), que dice así: “es una entidad clínico-patológica caracterizada por un eritema difuso y un edema del pecho, frecuentemente sin encontrarse una masa palpable”.En la especie canina, a pesar de que se dispone de menos datos registrados sobre la incidencia y prevalencia del cáncer de mama, se sabe que es la neoplasia más frecuente en las hembras, suponiendo más del 50% de los diagnósticos oncológicos. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women and the fourth cause of death in women globally whose the incidence is increasing in the recent years due to many different factors: genetics, demographic changes, lifestyle habits, exposure to radiation and hormonal treatments, among others.A particular case of breast cancer is Inflammatory Breast Carcinoma (IBC). First described in 1814 by Charles Bell, it is the least prevalent breast tumor subtype, but it stands out for it’s high mortality rate.Actually, the accepted definition of IBC is the one developed by the American Joint Committee of Cancer (AJCC), which says: "it is a clinicopathological entity characterized by diffuse erythema and edema of the breast, frequently without finding a palpable mass."In the canine species, despite the fact that there is less recorded data regarding the incidence and prevalence of breast cancer, it is known that it is the most frequent neoplasia in female dogs, accounting for more than 50% of oncological diagnoses.
