Abstract
The present work constitutes a conservation-restoration proposal for a work belonging to a particular collection, namely the Portrait of Cristóbal Warleta and Díez Cabeza de Armada, miniature executed on ivory with the technique to the wash and executed at the beginning of the S.XIX. This piece is part of a collection of five portraits of the same family saga. The proposal begins with the study of the historical context of this type of work and the techniques used in its realization. It continues with the research on this particular portrait, in terms of its history, as well as the constituent elements that configure it, factors of deterioration and state of conservation that it presents. This documentation phase continues with the bibliographic review concerning the conservation-restoration treatments applied to this type of works, executed on ivory and painted to gouache. All this prior documentation has allowed us to consider the possible treatments to be applied to the portrait, in order to guarantee its correct conservation, applying the established criteria and regulations. To complete this project, a preventive conservation plan has been set up. In addition, this final work includes a brief review of the state of conservation of the rest of the works in the collection, since, together with the work under study, they are all conceived as a unit to protect and transmit for future generations. This collection of five portraits is a legacy that, by remaining united, manages to transmit family history through the generations.
