Abstract
La colección de telas medievales del Monasterio de Santa María la Real de las Huelgas (Burgos), custodiada por Patrimonio Nacional, se compone de 220piezas pertenecientes a los siglos XIII y XIV, siendo única en su género. Proceden del panteón de la realeza castellana que alberga dicho monasterio, cuya apertura científica tuvo lugar entre 1942 y 1944. Si bien la bibliografía que menciona estos textiles es relativamente extensa, lo cierto es que desde 1946 no se ha vuelto a realizar un estudio de conjunto sobre la misma. Las vicisitudes de la colección desde su hallazgo hasta la actualidad hacen necesario un estudio que se ocupe de incardinar estas piezas en su contexto histórico. Dada la relevancia de las figuras de Alfonso VIII y Leonor Plantagenet, fundadores del monasterio de las Huelgas y fallecidos ambos en 1214, esta tesis se centra en su periodo histórico. The collection of Medieval Textiles of the Abbey of Santa María la Real de las Huelgas (Burgos), guarded by Patrimonio Nacional (Spanish National Heritage), consists of 220 pieces belonging to the 13th and 14th centuries, which is unique in their kind. They come from the mausoleum of Castilian royalty, housed by the Abbey. Its scientific opening was carried out between 1942 and 1944. While the bibliography mentioning these textiles is relatively extensive, admittedly, an overall study has not been carried out again since 1946. The vicissitudes of the collection from its discovery to the present day make it necessary to place these pieces in their historical context by means of an in-depth study. Given the relevance of Alfonso VIII and Leonor Plantagenet, the royal founders of the Abbey of Las Huelgas, and both deceased in1214, a work on the 13th-century Castile’s textile culture is undertaken through the monographic analysis of their grave goods.
