Abstract
En la presente Tesis Doctoral deseamos dar a conocer los mapas de las Relaciones Geográficas de 1577 para la región cultural chichimeca. Las Relaciones Geográficas fueron un intento desde la metrópolis de conocer las posesiones ultramarinas, para ello, Juan López de Velasco realizó una Instrucción y Memoria, una suerte de cuestionario que debía ser respondido por las autoridades de cada virreinato a nivel de partido. Las diferentes respuestas que se obtuvieron a esta Instrucción componen hoy en día el corpus documental conocido como las Relaciones Geográficas de 1577. Dentro de este corpus hay información antropológica, biológica, económica e histórica de las posesiones hispanas a finales del siglo XVI, lo que les convierte en unos documentos esenciales. Entre las posesiones que respondieron a la petición de la Corona encontramos distintos partidos de Nueva España y Nueva Galicia que se encontraban en la Gran Chichimeca, la frontera septentrional del virreinato. Esta Tesis Doctoral da una interpretación a estas pinturas, permitiéndonos trasladar al paisaje actual aquellos elementos del paisaje físico e imaginado que representaron en el siglo XVI. Además, explicamos a todos los elementos representados en ellos basándonos en los acontecimientos históricos que contextualizan la elaboración de los mapas, convirtiendo este trabajo en un estudio interdisciplinar..
In this Doctoral Thesis we wish to make known the maps of the Geographical Relations of 1577 for the Chichimeca cultural region. The Geographical Relations were an attempt from the metropolis to know the overseas possessions, for this, Juan López de Velasco made an Instruction and Memory, a kind of questionnaire that had to be answered by the authorities of each viceroyalty at the party level. The different answers that were obtained to this Instruction make up today the documentary corpus known as the Geographical Relations of 1577. Within this corpus there is anthropological, biological, economic, and historical information of the Hispanic possessions at the end of the sixteenth century, which makes them essential documents. Among the possessions that responded to the request of the Crown we find different parties of New Spain and New Galicia that were in the Gran Chichimeca, the northern border of the viceroyalty.This Doctoral Thesis gives an interpretation to these paintings, allowing us to transfer to the current landscape those elements of the physical and imagined landscape that they represented in the sixteenth century. In addition, we explain all the elements represented in them based on the historical events that contextualize the elaboration of the maps, turning this work into an interdisciplinary study...
