Abstract
In recent years, many applications and systems require a geolocation tool for their correct operation. Currently, GPS is the global positioning system of reference, but not the only one, as there are more and more alternative systems on the market. The positioning systems that have evolved the most in recent decades are those based on the use of mobile networks, due to the massive development of telephony and the fact that their infrastructure is practically global. The “ISAC-Nav” project aims to create a functional positioning system that makes exclu sive use of the mobile network infrastructure. To this end, based on current positioning techniques based on mobile networks, an algorithm is implemented to locate the center of the polygon generated by the union of the antennas captured at that moment and the power received from each one of them. After detailing the project architecture and justifying why different technologies have been implemented or discarded, two real use cases are presented. Next, a study is presented in which, by performing a simulation in an urban environment, the efficiency of the created system is measured. The results are then compared with those of two proven positioning systems, in terms of reliability and validity, to demonstrate the feasibility of the “ISAC-Nav” project. Finally, conclusions are drawn as to why the objectives of the “ISAC-Nav” project are considered to have been achieved, among which the creation of a functional positioning system, which can be developed through future projects.
