Abstract
The objective of this cross-sectional analytic study was to make a comparison of the clinical behaviour among CAD-CAM and acrylic conventional stabilization splints in patients that have been diagnosed with a temporomandibular disorder according to DC/TMD criteria(Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders)in the Clinic of Temporomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain at Complutense University of Madrid during year 2021. The size sample was 6 patients (12 stabilization splints) which was obtained through a consecutive nonprobability sampling. Variables such as retention, stability, bascule, occlusal contacts, anterior and lateral guidance, physical traits, comfort perception, and clinical adjusting time of both types of splints as well as asymmetry index of masticatory muscles were analysed. The preliminary outcomes indicated absence of differences in terms of physical and mechanical traits and the clinical behaviour among both types of splints. Increasing the number of participants will allow to improve the level of evidence in terms of determining the differences of traits of these two stabilization splints helping the clinicians in the decision making about the most suitable manufacturing method.
