Abstract
La infección protésica articular (IPA) y la artritis nativa producen una importante morbilidad. Requieren un tratamiento médico-quirúrgico complejo, siendo el fracaso terapéutico elevado. Staphylococcus aureus es uno de los principales patógenos causantes de infección articular. Tiene numerosos genes de virulencia codificantes para adhesinas o proteínas formadoras de biofilm, que dificultan el tratamiento antibiótico. Uno de los principales reguladores de la virulencia de S. aureus es el gen regulador accesorio (agr). No existen muchos estudios que hayan profundizado en las características microbiológicas y moleculares de los estafilococos en esta infección, y aún menos en la asociación de éstas con la evolución clínica. Prosthetic joint infection (PJI) and native arthritis produce significant morbidity. They require complex medical and surgical treatment, with treatment failure being high. Staphylococcus aureus is one of the main pathogens causing joint infection. It has numerous virulence genes encoding for adhesins or biofilm-forming proteins, which make antibiotic treatment difficult. One of the main virulence regulators of S. aureus is the accessory gene regulator (agr).
