Abstract
Joaquín Dicenta: su teatro y el grupo de la Gente Nueva se centra en un escritor, periodista y dramaturgo tan renombrado y popular en vida como ignorado tras su muerte hace ya un siglo, aunque en los últimos años la editorial Renacimiento haya recuperado sus crónicas de viaje y Larumbe sus textos biográficos: la novela Encarnación y el sucinto relato Idos y muertos. Esta investigación aborda, bajo una nueva perspectiva, su vida y obra teatral; pretende también ofrecer una visión distinta sobre un autor considerado caduco, centrado en las temáticas sociales o el melodrama ibérico. Se estructura en cinco partes. En la introducción, tras fijar los objetivos, fuentes y metodología, se consignan todos los estudios publicados relativos a su vida y obra para constatar la polarización de la crítica en torno al debate (o la afirmación) de si su teatro era social o no; y que ha servido para establecer el estado de la cuestión y plantear las correspondientes hipótesis de trabajo...

Joaquín Dicenta: su teatro y el grupo de la Gente Nueva revolves around a writer, journalist and playwright who was as popular and renowned while alive as he was ignored after his death a century ago: Joaquín Dicenta. Only a few houses have published his works in the last years: Renacimiento has edited his travel chronicles and Larumbe has published his biographical works: the novel Encarnación and the novella Idos y muertos. This research tackles, in a new perspective, Dicenta's life and work as a playwright. It seeks to offer a new viewpoint about an author still considered to be outdated, social-centred and keen on a sort of Iberian melodrama. This dissertation is divided in five distinguishable parts. The introduction presents the research's objectives, sources and methodology. It includes a state of the art referring to the main studies published on Dicenta's life and work. There exists a polarisation of the critics about the social nature of his theatre, which is explained and developed in this part in order to gauge some hypotheses...
