Abstract
COVID-19 es una patología originada por la infección por SARS-CoV-2 que presenta un gran espectro de manifestaciones clínicas, desde un perfil asintomático hasta pacientes que desarrollan complicaciones graves como neumonías bilaterales masivas o eventos trombóticos graves. Los pacientes con las formas más graves de la enfermedad se distinguen del resto por presentar alteraciones en el perfil inmunitario incluyendo linfopenia o neutrofilia. Como se ha descrito en otros procesos infecciosos, el tipo de respuesta inmune generada para controlar la enfermedad es determinante para su evolución. Una respuesta inmunitaria potencialmente beneficiosa es aquella que ocurre en los primeros momentos de la infección de forma eficiente y autolimitada. COVID-19 is a pathology caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection that presents a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations, from an asymptomatic profile to patients who develop life-threatening complications such as massive bilateral pneumonia or severe thrombotic events. Patients with the most severe forms are distinguished from the rest by presenting alterations in the immune profile, including lymphopenia or neutrophilia. As it has been described in other infectious processes, the type of immune response generated to control the disease is determinant for its evolution. A potentially beneficial immune response is one that occurs early in the infection in an efficient and self-limited manner.
