Abstract
Tras exponer las razones de la creciente atención otorgada por la literatura y las políticas a la relación existente entre territorio e innovación, este documento realiza una revisión del debate habido en torno al concepto de sistema regional de innovación (SRI), de la relación y diferencias que presenta con el concepto de clúster, de las tipologías de SRI propuestas por la literatura, de las conclusiones que se derivan de los estudios de casos de SRI, así como de los principales resultados de los estudios empíricos sobre SRI basados en fuentes secundarias. De estos últimos se presentan las fuentes e indicadores disponibles para el análisis de SRI, las tipologías obtenidas aplicando técnicas estadísticas y los resultados de los estudios que tratan de la relación entre la innovación y el rendimiento económico y de la convergencia regional. ABSTRACT: After showing the reasons for the increasing attention paid by both the literature and policy to the relationship between territory and innovation, this paper reviews the recent debate on the regional innovation system (RIS) concept, on the relation and differences between the RIS and the cluster concepts, on the RIS typologies proposed by the literature, on the findings stemming from the RIS case studies, and on the main results coming from empirical analysis based on secondary sources. Regarding this last point, the review displays the available sources and indicators for regional analysis, the typologies obtained by means of statistical techniques, and the studies that have analyzed the relationship between innovation and economic output and dealt with regional convergence.
