Abstract
Objetivos: Evaluar los factores cognitivo-funcionales y el estado de salud oral de los adultos mayores y ancianos españoles atendidos en tres Servicios de Odontología de la Comunidad de Madrid. Métodos: Se ha realizado un estudio epidemiológico multicéntrico transversal en una muestra de 615 pacientes en tres centros odontológicos: Hospital Virgen de la Paloma, la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y una clínica privada. Se registraron características de la historia clínica: edad, sexo, patología concomitante, medicación y soporte socio-familiar. Se evaluó la capacidad funcional mediante los Índices de Katz y de Lawton y Brody y se realizó un examen odontológico para valorar patología bucal, necesidades de tratamiento odontológico e higiene. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó la versión 25 de SPSS, el test de Mann-Whitney, Kruskal- Wallis y Chi-cuadrado con una p menor que 0,05. Resultados: Se dividieron a los 615 pacientes evaluados, 197 hombres y 418 mujeres en dos grupos de estudio para el análisis de los datos: 486 participantes pertenecientes al primer grupo de estudio: tercera edad o adultos mayores (65-79 años) y 129 pertenecientes al segundo grupo: cuarta edad o ancianos (80 y más años)...
Objective: Evaluate the cognitive functional factors and the oral health in adults aged 65 years and above who attend any of the three participating Dentistry Services in the Community of Madrid. Methods: The epidemiological study was carried out in a sample of 615 patients with a recruitment period ranging from June two thousand and sixteen to December two thousand and seventeen in three different Dentistry Services: Hospital Virgen de la Paloma, Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Private dental center. Characteristics of the clinical history have been collected: age, sex, diseases, medication (measured by number of tablets routinely taken), habits and social and family support. To assess the functional capacity used the Katz Index and Lawton and Brody Index, and oral health as measured by oral pathology, treatment needs and hygiene. Statistical analysis was used SPSS version twenty five (25), the Mann Whitney, Kruskal Wallis and chi square test with a P less than zero point zero five (p<0.05). Results: The 615 patients evaluated (197 men and 418 women), were divided in two study groups for the analysis of the data: 486 participants belonging to the first study group: third age (65-79 years) and 129 belonging to the second group: fourth age (80 and over)...
