La prevalencia de heridas crónicas con pérdida de sustancia entre la población es muy elevada y tiene diversas causas. El impacto que este tipo de lesiones presenta en la calidad de vida de los pacientes varía según su tiempo de evolución, localización, etiología y edad del paciente. Todas pueden ser causa potencial de absentismo laboral y de alteración de la vida habitual, así como un importante gasto para el Sistema Sanitario. Among the general population, the prevalence of patients who develop chronic, ulcerative wounds has become a very real concern. The negative impact that chronic, seeping wounds impose upon the overall quality of a patient's daily life varies in accordance with the timing of its onset, to its etiology, to its location upon the patient's body, and even in accordance with the patient's age. All four factors may potentially contribute to the patient having to periodically skip work and remain home, to having to otherwise altering their usual daily routine, while also adding even more financial stress to an already over-stressed health care system. Chronic ulcerative sores are a growing challenge for doctors. A large number of resources are utilized in the treatment and in the prevention of chronic open wounds...
