Abstract
A lo largo de los últimos años, la internacionalización de la historiografía española ha permitido examinar las relaciones hispano-norteamericanas durante la Guerra Fría desde enfoques novedosos, incorporándose a algunos de los debates suscitados fuera de nuestras fronteras. No ha sido así con el creciente protagonismo de la infancia como sujeto de estudio en la acción exterior de la potencia americana. La figura del niño ha permanecido relegada a un segundo plano en los trabajos centrados en los encuentros -y desencuentros- entre Estados Unidos y el régimen franquista. La presente tesis doctoral se encuadra en ese campo de investigación, tomando como objeto de análisis las llamadas US politics of childhood, que agruparon un conjunto de iniciativas promovidas por el Ejecutivo norteamericano, con la frecuente colaboración de agencias multilaterales y de actores de la sociedad civil, y que repercutieron de una manera directa e indirecta en el bienestar infantil de la nación receptora...
Over the past several years, the internationalization of Spanish historiography has allowed for some novel approaches to examining Spanish-American relations during the Cold War, joining some of the debates raised outside of Spain’s borders. This has not been the case, however, with the increasing emphasis on childhood as an subject of study in American foreign relations. The figure of the child has remained relegated to the background in the works focused on the agreements—and disagreements—between the United States and the Franco regime. The present doctoral thesis fits into this field of research, taking as an object of analysis the so-called US politics of childhood, which encompassed a set of initiatives promoted by the US government, with the frequent collaboration of multilateral agencies and civil society actors, having both direct and indirect impacts on child welfare in Spain...
