Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the most widespread diseases globally, with diabetic neuropathy standing out as one of its most severe complications. Unlike the evaluation of myelinated sensorimotor fibers, the early autonomic component of neuropathy, which is transmitted through unmyelinated postganglionic fibers, remains a challenge in the clinical setting. Early assessment of these autonomic alterations could enable the initiation of interventions inthe early stages of the disease. Current diagnostic approaches rely on complex test batteries or highly specialized intraepidermal biopsies. Although these methods are useful in research and specialized clinical settings, their implementation challenges limit their use in routine clinical practice...
