Abstract
Para alcanzar resultados óptimos en la confección de prótesis implantosoportadas se precisa, en muchas ocasiones, el uso de prótesis provisionales de larga duración. En este sentido son los polímeros fabricados por CAD/CAM los materiales más adecuados, ofreciendo propiedades mejoradas respecto a los materiales provisionales convencionales. Dichos materiales se brindan como alternativa en un futuro a los materiales definitivos. Sin embargo, su uso está limitado en este campo, dada la escasez de ensayos clínicos que evalúen su utilización a largo plazo. In order to achieve optimal results in the confection of implant-supported prostheses, the use of long term provisional prosthesis is required on many occasions. This treatment demands the use of polymeric materials with excellent mechanical and optical properties, as well as a clinically acceptable marginal fit. In this sense, polymers manufactured by CAD/CAM are the most suitable materials, offering improved properties with regard to conventional provisional materials. These materials are additionally displayed as a future alternative to definitive materials, given the advantages they show over them in the fields of implant-prostheses. However, their use in this field is limited, given the shortage of clinical trials evaluating its long-term use. The present research work is a preliminary clinical trial that aims to study the behaviour of implant-supported prostheses in the posterior sector, entirely manufactured using CAD/CAM technology with two polymeric materials: polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polyoxymethylene (POM). In order to carry out this clinical research, an in vitro study was previously conducted regarding the parameters of marginal fit and fracture resistance of both materials, whose results were reflected in the Masters Dissertation (TFM) performed by Isabel Cervera in this same Department. After confirming that such materials possessed the appropriate plastic and elastic features and a marginal fit within the acceptable clinical limits, its in vivo study was planned. The pattern of the study is thought as one comparison intra-persons between implant-supported prostheses of PMMA and POM.
