Abstract
Esta tesis consiste en un estudio sobre los militares masones españoles, su comportamiento dentro del Ejército y sus relaciones con la Orden. El periodo estudiado comprende desde la creación de la masonería especulativa en 1717 hasta la guerra civil de 1936.La razón de esta investigación se fundamenta en la importancia del Ejército como grupo social y en la imagen negativa de la masonería española que ha sido trasmitida a lo largo de la historia. Estereotipo imaginario que, en gran parte de los casos, está fuera de la realidad. El objetivo es estudiar la actuación y evolución de los militares masones para comprender si la pertenencia a la masonería influó en su comportamiento. Al no existir, en gran parte de los estudios masónicos, datos sobre la vida militar, aparte de su condición de militar, se estudiaran los empleos militares, tipos de ascensos, destinos, actuaciones dentro del Ejército (tanto en paz como en campaña), etc. Lógicamente esta visión es importante, pues gran parte de los oficiales miembros de la Orden son desconocidos en su faceta militar y masónica, y su actuación no sobrepasó el círculo más cercano. El estudiar a los militares de forma específica, se basa en que en este grupo existen algunos parámetros diferenciados del resto de la sociedad (tipo de formación, estructura jerárquica, participación en conflictos, régimen disciplinario, etc.), y sobre todo porque la filiación masónica entre los oficiales, en todas sus épocas, fue comparativamente más alta que en otros colectivos, ocupando además altos cargos en la estructura masonería...
This thesis consists of a study on Spanish military Masons, their behaviour within the Army and their relations with the Order. The timeframe of this study encompasses from the speculated creation of Masonry in 1717 until the civil war in 1936.The reason for this investigation is based on the importance of the Army as a social group and on the negative image of Spanish Masonry, which has been transmitted throughout history. This is an imaginative stereotype, which, for the most part, is far from the truth. The objective is to study the actions and evolution of military Masons to understand whether belonging to Freemasonry affected their behaviour. Since information on military life, apart from their being military members, does not exist in most studies on Masonry, military postings, forms of promotion, destinations, behaviour within the Army (both in peace as in war), etc. will be studied. Logically this is an important vision, as most official members of the Order are unknown as both Army officers and Masons, and their actions did not go beyond their immediate surroundings. Studying soldiers in a specific manner, is based on the belief that some parameters within this group are different, from those in the rest of society (types of formation, hierarchical structure, participation in conflict, disciplinary regime, etc.) and above all, because a Masonic affiliation among officers, in all periods, was comparatively higher than other groups, as well as also holding positions of importance within a Masonic structure...
