Abstract
The European Union considers digital skills as one of the eight key skills that European citizens need to function in the Digital Era. Communication is today an activity that is immersed in the continuous evolution of the ICT(Information and Communication Technologies) environment and is directly affected by this evolution and by the increasing creation of digital contents. Digital transformation of the communication sector has led to a comprehensive reconsideration of its processes and of the professionals who form part of this sector. The way to communicate and consume digital contents of a moving and hyperconnected audience, and the business models that are rapidly growing require new professionals. These professionals must be capable of facing the new challenges ahead, in a future where the boost of both digital economy and the creation of digital contents is visualized as strategic objectives of growth and development within the European and, thus, the Spanish agendas. Universities should respond to this demand from the community by training professionals in communication to meet the required digital literacy skills that will enable them to be part of this future project and guarantee them better jobs. The purpose of this thesis is to draw a picture of the current academic courses concerning digital skills that are offered by the university degrees related to Communication, such as Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations or Audiovisual Communication...
