Abstract
El objeto de estudio de esta Tesis Doctoral es la influencia ejercida por el compositor francés Paul Dukas sobre la música española del siglo XX, centrándose, especialmente, en la relación de este compositor con cada uno de sus alumnos españoles. El vínculo de Paul Dukas con los compositores españoles formados en la primera mitad del siglo XX es notable. Muestra de ello son su amistad con Isaac Albéniz, la relación profesor-alumno que mantuvo con Manuel de Falla y el magisterio que ejerció sobre Joaquín Rodrigo, Jesús Arámbarri, Arturo Dúo Vital, María de Pablos Cerezo, Gustavo Durán, Joaquín Villatoro Medina, Joaquín Nin-Culmell, Bartomeu Oliver i Martí y Francisco Escudero, desde su puesto como profesor de composición en la École Normale de Musique y en el Conservatoire de París. Una investigación exhaustiva de este vínculo de Dukas con la música española incluye averiguar cómo y hasta qué punto su magisterio trasladó a todos los compositores españoles mencionados la técnica orquestal y el ideario estético de la moderna escuela francesa de las primeras décadas del siglo XX, así como evaluar el papel de Dukas como “protector” y consejero de los entonces jóvenes músicos españoles que llegaron a París con la intención de estudiar composición y abrirse un hueco en la vida musical del momento...

This PhD dissertation reviews the influence that the French composer, Paul Dukas, had on the Spanish music of the twentieth century. The focus is on the relationship he had with his Spanish students.The bond between Paul Dukas and the Spanish composers formed during the first half of the twentieth century is significant and it will be discussed throughout this study: the friendship with Isaac Albéniz, the teacher-student relationship he had with Manuel de Falla and the didactic influence on Joaquín Rodrigo, Jesús Arámbarri, Arturo Dúo Vital, María de Pablos Cerezo, Gustavo Durán, Joaquín Villatoro Medina, Joaquín Nin-Culmell, Bartomeu Oliver i Martí and Francisco Escudero. This was from his position as the professor of composition at the École Normale de Musique and the Conservatoire in París. An exhaustive research of the link between Dukas and the Spanish music must include how and to what point did his teaching reach the Spanish composers, in terms of orchestra techniques and aesthetic ideology of the modern French school of the first decades of the twentieth century. Furthermore, it should be assessed the role of Dukas as ‘guardian’ and ‘mentor’ of the, then young, Spanish composers who arrived at París eager to learn composition and hoping to create a niche for themselves in the musical scene of the time...
